Adventure Comes With Responsibility

Every trail is different. Weather changes, terrain shifts, wildlife moves, and even well-maintained trails can present unexpected challenges.

At Hike Southwest, we believe hiking should be accessible and enjoyable, but it also comes with personal responsibility. Good preparation, sound judgment, and a willingness to turn around when necessary are some of the most important pieces of gear you can carry.

Our trail guides are designed to help you make informed decisions, but they cannot eliminate the inherent risks of traveling in the outdoors.

Know Before You Go

A little preparation goes a long way.

Before heading out:

  • Check current trail conditions.
  • Review weather forecasts.
  • Carry more water than you think you'll need.
  • Tell someone where you're going.
  • Download offline maps if using your phone.
  • Bring the Ten Essentials.
  • Know your limits.

Conditions Can Change Overnight

Our trail information reflects the best information available at the time of publication.

However, storms, floods, wildfires, falling trees, erosion, and trail maintenance can dramatically change conditions with little warning.

A trail listed as clear one week may be blocked the next.

Always be prepared to adapt your plans.

You Are Responsible for Your Own Safety

No website, map, GPS track, or trail description can guarantee your safety.

You are responsible for evaluating:

  • Weather
  • Trail conditions
  • Water availability
  • Your fitness and experience
  • Your equipment
  • Decisions made during your hike
  • Falling Trees and Branches
  • Remote Areas with no cell service, limited traffic and long emergency response times

Turning around is never failure. The trail will still be there another day.

Practice Leave No Trace

Protect the places you're visiting.

  • Pack out everything you bring.
  • Stay on established trails whenever possible.
  • Respect wildlife.
  • Leave natural and cultural features where you find them.
  • Be considerate of others.

Every visitor helps shape the future of our public lands.

Our Commitment

At Hike Southwest, every trail guide is created from firsthand experience whenever possible and updated as conditions allow. Still, conditions change constantly, and no guide can account for every circumstance.

Our goal is to help you explore confidently, responsibly, and with a deeper appreciation for the incredible places these trails lead.

Because every great adventure begins with preparation.
